APEC starts in Da Nang amid heavy rain, heavy wind

The APEC 2017 Summit in Da Nang opened with the opening of the APEC Business Advisory Council (AMAC) on 5 November in the heavy rain caused by Typhoon Damrey.

"We tried our best to prepare (for APEC Week), including good weather, but we could not control it, so I'm sorry, we hope the weather will be better in the future. A few days later, ABAC Chairman 2017 Hoang Van Dung delivered the opening speech of the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) on 5 November.

Also in the opening session, Mr. Hoang Van Dung informed that after the previous ABAC meeting, he attended many events of the APEC 2017 framework in Vietnam, including the APEC Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) 3rd in Ho Chi Minh City. The Chairman of ABAC 2017 presented to SOM the progress of the implementation of the ABAC 2017 Action Plan, the preparatory process for the dialogue between the Advisory Council and the leaders of the economies.

At this meeting, ABAC will review the 2017 action plan, identify issues to be addressed and prepare action plans for 2018.

ABAC is one of the three most important mechanisms of APEC.
APEC sees trade as the lifeblood of the region and business is the driving force for economic growth. Recognizing the importance of business and the value of business advice on key issues, APEC leaders form the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) in 2009. 1995.

The council, which brings together voices from the private sector, will make recommendations to APEC leaders on annual dialogues, giving advice on business priorities and concerns. ABAC meets four times a year, ABAC representatives also attend high-level meetings, ministerial meetings and APEC regional ministerial meetings.
Each member economy has three business leaders attending ABAC, which are appointed by the economic leader. The ABAC chairmanship is in the APEC economies, so the position will change each year. ABAC represents a diverse area that encompasses both small and large businesses.
In 2017, ABAC President Hoang Van Dung and APEC theme this year is "Creating new momentum, fostering the common future".
The ABAC 2017 Action Plan will address four priorities: promoting regional economic integration; Reaching for sustainable growth, creativity and encompassing; Promote the competitiveness of micro, small and medium enterprises and encourage innovation in the digital age; Ensure food security and promote smart agriculture with post-harvest and sustainability.
